Restore Blue's Dr Emma Carmody has been appointed as the new Commissioner for the River Murray – South Australia. The role, established by the Malinauskas Labor Government, is central to protecting South Australia's interests in the ongoing management of the Murray-Darling Basin.
Dr Carmody was appointed following a long career advising a diverse range of clients including community groups, First Nations peoples and floodplain graziers about water law and policy in the Murray-Darling Basin, and advocating for the system’s sustainable management.
Dr Carmody steps into the role at a critical moment, as national attention turns to upcoming statutory reviews of the Basin Plan and the Water Act 2007 (Cth).
